Position: Client Accounts Manager
Location : Harrow / Office Based
Role Type : Full-time / Permanent
A) Key Responsibilities
1. Client Portfolio Management
- Manage and oversee a portfolio of clients, ensuring all accounting, tax, VAT, payroll, and statutory deadlines are met.
- Review accounts, corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, VAT returns, and other compliance work prepared by junior team members.
- Act as a key point of contact for assigned clients, dealing with queries, meetings, calls, and written communication in a professional and timely manner.
- Provide practical advice to clients on accounting, taxation, business performance, compliance, and general financial matters.
- Identify opportunities to add value to clients through proactive insights, recommendations, and advisory support.
- Ensure client work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with the firm’s quality standards.
2. Tax Focus and Advisory Development
- Support clients with corporate tax, personal tax, VAT, and other relevant tax matters.
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in developing deeper tax knowledge and building a future specialism in taxation.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and discuss them with Partners or senior management where appropriate.
- Stay up to date with changes in tax legislation, HMRC guidance, and compliance requirements.
- Assist in delivering tax-efficient solutions while maintaining full compliance with HMRC rules and professional standards.
- Support the firm’s wider goal of expanding high-quality tax advisory services to clients.
3. Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients through regular communication and excellent service.
- Understand each client’s business, goals, challenges, and future plans.
- Ensure clients feel supported, valued, and confident in the advice and service they receive.
- Work closely with Partners, management, and internal teams to deliver a smooth and consistent client experience.
- Identify opportunities to improve client satisfaction, strengthen retention, and support long-term client growth.
4. Team Supervision and Development
- Supervise, support, and mentor junior team members, both on-site and remotely.
- Review work prepared by junior staff and provide constructive feedback to improve quality and efficiency.
- Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure work is completed within agreed deadlines.
- Support training and development initiatives to improve technical knowledge and team capability.
- Assist with performance reviews, identifying strengths, development areas, and training needs.
- Encourage a positive, motivated, and professional team culture.
5. Practice Support and Operational Efficiency
- Support Partners and management in improving internal systems, workflows, and service delivery.
- Help maintain high standards of compliance, documentation, and client file management.
- Contribute to the development of efficient processes and best practices across the firm.
- Assist with onboarding new clients and ensuring a smooth handover of information and responsibilities.
- Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and contribute to the continued growth and success of the practice.
B) Required Skills and Experience
The successful candidate should have:
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience working in an accountancy practice.
- Strong knowledge of accounts preparation, corporation tax, personal tax, VAT, and general compliance matters.
- Ability & Experience of managing a portfolio of clients.
- Ability to review work prepared by junior team members.
- Strong communication skills and confidence in dealing directly with clients.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
- A proactive, problem-solving approach with attention to detail.
C) Qualifications
Ideally, the candidate will be:
- ACCA, ACA, or ATT qualified, or qualified by experience.
- Experienced in UK accountancy practice work.
- Interested in further professional development, particularly in taxation.
- Candidates with other qualifications but strong practical experience and the right attitude will also be considered.
